EDWARD SHALTS, MD
Board-Certified Psychiatrist Understanding the Brain. Improving the Person.

A structured, integrative approach to mental health focused on understanding patterns—not just symptoms—through clinical evaluation, laboratory testing, genetics, and brain mapping.

ABOUT DR. EDWARD SHALTS

I am a Board-Certified Psychiatrist with more than 40 years of clinical experience helping individuals navigate anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, sleep disorders, and other mental health challenges.

Throughout my career, I have combined evidence-based psychiatry with a broader understanding of how the brain, body, and environment interact. My work is informed by neuroscience, psychopharmacology, functional medicine, and neuromodulation.

My goal is not simply to reduce symptoms, but to understand the underlying factors that influence how each individual functions and to develop a treatment strategy tailored to that person.

MENTAL HEALTH BEGINS WITH UNDERSTANDING THE BRAIN

The brain is the body’s command center.

It influences mood, attention, sleep, emotional regulation, stress resilience, decision-making, and countless other aspects of daily life.

When we better understand how the brain is functioning, we often gain valuable insight into the symptoms people experience and the most effective ways to address them.

HOW IT STARTED

Over time, I observed that focusing solely on symptoms often produced incomplete or temporary results.

Many patients spent years moving through cycles of trial-and-error treatment without a clear understanding of why certain approaches helped while others did not.

This experience led me to develop a more structured approach focused on identifying the biological, psychological, and lifestyle factors that may contribute to a person’s condition.

Rather than asking only:

“What diagnosis does this person have?”

I became increasingly interested in asking:

“Why is this person experiencing these symptoms?”

APPROACH & PHILOSOPHY

I view mental health through the lens of interconnected systems rather than isolated symptoms.

This may include understanding:
• Brain function and regulation
• Emotional resilience and stress response
• Biological and metabolic influences
• Lifestyle and environmental factors
• Personal history and life circumstances

The goal is not simply symptom reduction.

The goal is to understand how the system is functioning and to develop a thoughtful, individualized plan that supports meaningful and lasting improvement.

Signature Statement

Some patients benefit from rapid symptom relief.
Others require a deeper understanding of the factors contributing to their condition.
My role is to determine which approach is appropriate—and when.
